confined space rescue

Confined Space Rescue Services

PROS Services provides confined space rescue services for industrial facilities across Michigan. Our rescue team stands by at the entry point while your workers or contractors are inside a permit-required confined space, with a fully equipped confined space rescue trailer on site, so a trained team can reach and remove an injured entrant quickly if something goes wrong.

Our technicians are confined space trained through Macomb Community College and are CPR trained. We have been working in tanks, vessels, pits and vaults across Michigan since 1954, so we understand the spaces we are standing by for.

Confined Space Rescue Standby for Michigan Facilities

A confined space is an area that is large enough to enter but is not designed for continuous occupancy and has limited ways in and out: tanks, silos, vessels, pits, sumps, manholes, vaults and ductwork. When a space is permit-required, OSHA requires the employer to have rescue and emergency services available before anyone enters. Many facilities do not have an in-house rescue team, and local fire departments may not be able to guarantee a response time or confined space capability. A dedicated standby team closes that gap.

  • Rescue team on standby at the entry point for the duration of the entry
  • Confined space rescue trailer outfitted with the equipment needed to safely extricate an injured entrant
  • Trained technicians, confined space trained and CPR trained
  • Scheduled standby for shutdowns, turnarounds and maintenance outages

How Confined Space Rescue Standby Works

  1. Pre-job review. We review the space, the work being done and your entry permit so our team knows the access points and hazards before arrival.
  2. Set up at the entry point. Our crew and rescue trailer are in position before the first entrant goes in.
  3. Standby during entry. The rescue team stays at the entry point for the full duration of the work, ready to act.
  4. Rescue if needed. If an entrant is injured or incapacitated, our team performs the rescue and extricates the individual from the space.

Confined Space Work and Rescue From One Contractor

PROS also performs the work that happens inside confined spaces, including industrial cleaning, tank cleaning and sludge removal. That means we can provide the entry crew, the rescue standby and the waste handling on one job, or support your own crews and contractors with rescue standby only.

Confined Space Rescue FAQs

Is a confined space rescue team required by OSHA?

For permit-required confined spaces, OSHA requires employers to ensure rescue and emergency services are available before entry. Employers can use their own trained team or an outside rescue service that can respond in time for the hazards of the space. A standby team at the entry point is the most direct way to meet that requirement. For background, see what counts as a confined space.

What is the difference between confined space rescue and standby?

Standby is the team being present at the entry point during the work. Rescue is what that team does if an entrant needs to be removed from the space. With PROS, you get both: the team stands by for the entire entry and performs the rescue if one is needed.

What training does your rescue team have?

Our team is confined space trained through Macomb Community College and CPR trained.

Can you provide rescue standby for another contractor’s entry?

Yes. We can support facility crews and outside contractors by providing rescue standby only, while they perform the work inside the space.

Where do you provide confined space rescue services?

We provide confined space rescue standby throughout Michigan from our base in Roseville, and serve Toledo, Fort Wayne, South Bend and the Chicago area.
